Welcome to
Get Along
Farm

We raise grass-fed Icelandic sheep and muscovy ducks on our small farm in northeastern Oregon. These produce wool, milk and meat for us as well as for sale, hence the quality and care of our animals is very important to us. All are fed a main diet of pasture, supplemented with orchard grass and alfalfa in the winter. We avoid feeding grain to the sheep except as an occasional treat or for milking ewes. The mild, healthy Icelandic lamb is considered the "Cadillac" of lamb meat.

Lamb is an excellent source of iron and Vitamin B12 as well as many other nutrients.  Grass-fed lamb is even better, with a healthy omega 3 to omega 6 ratio of 1:2.  Compare that to grain-fed commercial chicken at 1:8.  A simple internet search will verify this.

Muscovy duck is another good source of healthy nutrients. These ducks are lower in fat than other ducks, have a red breast meat that tastes similar to beef, and a great nutritional profile. The eggs are also tasty and nutritious.

We have 2023 meat lambs for sale for $175 each or registered breeder ram lambs for $250 each. Lambs may be purchased in advance with a holding fee of $50. Ducks are $20 for adults and $10 for ducklings.

The Icelandics are well known to spinners and felters for their remarkable dual wool fleece which comes in a variety of colors from white to rich browns to silver grey to black. The inner fleece, the thel, is soft as down and the long outer fleece is highly water repellent. Blended together, the two wools make a “lopi” yarn that is the standard for the famous Icelandic sweaters.

Finally, a word about sheep's milk. It is mild in taste like cow's milk only richer, a little sweeter and very nutritious, including being high in Vitamin K2.  It is also less likely to cause intestinal distress for those with lactose intolerance.  We milk once a day in the morning and leave the lambs on their moms during the day.

We make creamy yogurt, skyr (an Icelandic cheese that's easy to make) and cheeses from the milk as well as using it fresh. It also makes great ice cream.

Just contact us if you want to purchase sheep or if you just want more information.
